5 Common Non-Genuine Toner Myths Busted

The cost of printing is a business operation that requires a lot of scrutiny. Printing costs add up in ways you may not expect: you burn through ink cartridges at blazing speed (and if you don’t, they dry up or clog and you still need to buy new ones), colours are off and the frequent servicing causes a lot of tiny outages that  frustrate you and your employees.

But there are simple things you can do to make sure your devices are working at peak performance. One of the simplest ones is investing in genuine consumables, such as inks and toners.

Sourcing cheaper consumables is one of the most common tactics businesses use to save money. Many are lured by the cheap shelf price and promises of ‘compatibility’ with their Fuji Xerox device.

But non-genuine toners, inks and cartridges actually cost more in the long run. The lower page yield, susceptibility to damage and leakage, machine downtime and loss of productivity — not to mention the lasting damage to your device — making non-genuine toners a more expensive and costly long term option.

Only genuine Fuji Xerox Printers consumables offer the integrated design and strict quality control your business needs to reach its peak, and save money in the long run.

What are Genuine Toners?

Genuine toner cartridges, otherwise known as OEM cartridges (Original Equipment Manufacturer), are made by the company that built and designed your printer. If you own a Fuji Xerox printer, then the official Fuji Xerox branded cartridges are the genuine toners for your printer.

OEM toner and cartridges are designed and tested specifically to work with the components of your printer, non-genuine or remanufactured cartridges are not.

What are Non-Genuine Toners?

A non-genuine toner is one built by a third party supplier that will claim they are ‘compatible’ with certain printers. They typically come in one of three forms: compatible, remanufactured and counterfeit.

Often they are recycled from a used ink cartridge, with parts and inks replaced by lower quality substitutes. Some non-genuine toners and cartridges are built new, but made from lower quality components and inks.

Here are 5 common non-genuine toner myths busted:

1. It’s cheaper

By using cheaper compatible inks and toners, businesses risk sub-quality print outs and could even be causing lasting damage to their printers, costing much more in the long run. That’s not to mention the impact on productivity caused by machine downtime and the cost of compromising your warranty.

2. They won’t damage your printer

Using non-genuine toner can actually be bad for your printer. Its toner powder particles are different to genuine toners, and can cause more printer jams and paper burns, which can ultimately damage the printer’s engine.

Engine breakdowns are reported to occur about 2.4 times more frequently with non-genuine toner use. Also, with inconsistent size of particles, non-genuine toners also lead to print-quality failures, such as vertical lines and blurred images.

3. Non-Genuine. Who cares? They’re all the same

Only Genuine Fuji Xerox Printers consumables are rigorously tested by Fuji Xerox Printers to ensure the best possible performance and reliability with Fuji Xerox Printers products. By continually perfecting our consumables technology, Fuji Xerox Printers improves the intelligence that protects your hardware investment.

Non-genuine toners are made of used parts and lower quality inks that can reduce the overall performance of your printer, promising little in terms of performance.

4. They don’t affect print quality

Most companies buy a colour printer instead of a mono printer for a reason, it’s to give their sales proposals and marketing collateral extra impact.  And it doesn’t matter if you’re selling $10 hamburgers, $1,000 phone systems, or $1,000,000 houses, you want your colour documents to stand out from the rest.  Saving a few dollars on non-genuine toners may cause poor colour reproduction and washed-out colours, a false economy if you’re trying to impress your clients and grow your business.

5. They’re compatible with my printer

Non-genuine ink and toner manufacturers do not have access to the technical specifications of Fuji Xerox printers and the technology behind each device. They can’t guarantee that the consumables they produce will work with Fuji Xerox devices, particularly in the long run.

Take the hassle out of consumables with Managed Print Services (MPS)

If you’re a small business owner shopping for a printer or printing solution, you may have heard about Managed Print Services (MPS). MPS involves entering into a contract with a third party for the management, maintenance and support of your printer and its consumables.

Research has shown that an MPS contract can reduce printing costs by up to 30 per cent, in addition to reducing time wasted on ordering consumables or dealing with technical issues. Fuji Xerox Printers MPS provides end-to-end management of your printing operations and consumables, meaning you don’t have to worry about sourcing and stocking genuine toners — it’s all taken care of for you.
